Learning from home

Welcome Room 6 learners to our distance learning for Term 2, 2020.

While our country is in lock down, and until the government say that we can return to Ruapotaka School, we will be learning from home.
Mrs Pedersen will be your teacher, as Mrs Mitchell broke her arm in February. She is at home and getting better.

Each day I will be posting on your class blog. There will be activities to help you with your learning. Sometimes you will need to do activities to help your family. Please get someone at your home to help you.

Remember that you must stay in your 'bubble'. That means to stay at the house you are in. You can go outside to get fresh air and exercise.

Please get your family to read the letter below:

Dear parents, families and whanau of room 6,
I hope that you are keeping safe in your bubble. This is a difficult time for all of New Zealand, but it is important for the health of all of us to follow the government’s instructions.
You will be aware that the school holidays were brought forward by a week and a half. This means that from this Wednesday 15th April, school will be operating in a different way. Schools are not open. We will find out more near the end of the national lock down on 23rd April. You can keep informed on television news, the 1pm update each day on TV1 or the government website: https://covid19.govt.nz/. As a school we will also keep you updated on our website: https://www.ruapotaka.school.nz/ or our school Facebook page.
Mrs Christine Mitchell broke her arm in February and is still away from school duties, this means that I will be the teacher in charge of room 6 for the meantime. You are most welcome to contact me through this email address vanessap@ruapotaka.school.nz. I will also try to call you and your child to give any assistance required.
Could you please let me know if you have a device which your child can use and when you receive the learning pack, by responding to the above email address.
I will be using the room 6 blog: http://rpschristinem.blogspot.com/  to communicate learning tasks on a daily basis, for your child to complete.
The government is also posting, to all our year 1 to 6 learners, learning packs with activities to assist you with helping your child to continue with their learning. We are unsure of the exact date that these will arrive, so keep a check on your letterbox. I will be able to assist you with using these packs.
The government has also set up, as part of their Covid 19 website, an education section: https://learningfromhome.govt.nz/ where you can also access more learning tasks on different websites.
There will also be two television channels dedicated to learning activities. These begin on Wednesday 15th April. You can access this learning on TVNZ channel 2+1; TVNZ on Demand; or Sky channel 52.
Your child is not expected to do learning from 9am until 3pm, but it is a good idea to have a routine and remember you can do other types of learning, which I will give you ideas for.
Remember that you can contact me and to keep safe in your bubble.
Vanessa Pedersen
Deputy Principal
