You may have different generations living together such as grandparents, parents and grandchildren.
All these people have different needs and jobs in the family.
What do you do to help each other?

A family tree shows how you are all related to each other.

ANZAC work by room 6 learners

Well done to Zephaniah and his family, and also Jeremiah and his family for creating some ANZAC poppies to display at their homes. Jeremiah also made ANZAC biscuits and they look delicious. Were they?

Making your own poppy

If you look round your home you maybe able to make your own poppy because this year the RSA can not sell them to us.

This is one Mrs Pedersen made from an egg carton.

Mrs Pedersen has been collecting different ANZAC badges.
She has also put up a poppy to remember all that others have done for New Zealand.

ANZAC Day

ANZAC Day is this Saturday.




If you and your family want to do something, as we can't attend a service this year, people round New Zealand are standing at their letter boxes at 5.55am to have a minute's silence to show respect for all those who went to war or were at all involved with the war effort.

It was not just the soldiers, but also nurses; ambulance drivers; doctors; cooks; uniform makers; radio operators and many more.
Can you think of any others?

    What do you think soldiers were thinking?
                                                                                    How were they feeling?
                                                                                    Where do you think they wished they were?

Have you got a younger brother or sister at home?
If you do to help your family you could read a book, play a game or sing with them for a while.        

ANZAC Day

This Saturday is ANZAC Day.

Normally we have a special ANZAC service at school.
This year is very unusual as all ANZAC services in New Zealand have been cancelled.
This does not mean that we need to forget all those people who did an amazing job to make sure that New Zealand was a safe place for us to all live in. 

Talk with your family about what you already know. What can they tell you?

World Earth Day

Wednesday is Earth Day. This day has been celebrated for 50 years.
This year our school wide inquiry is Kaitiakitangi or Guardianship. 
We all have a part to play in looking after our Earth.

Can you name all the planets in our solar system?

As far as scientists know, Earth is the only planet with life as we know, on it.
As humans we have changed the Earth a lot. Now it is up to all of us to make sure that we do not do any more damage.

Think about how you could care at home, at school and in the community.

Helping around the house

Can you help by folding and putting your clothes away in the correct place. That might be in a wardrobe, a drawer, a cupboard or on a shelf. If your clothes are dirty, where do you put them?

Designing a jumper

Imagine that you are a clothing designer and you are able to put whatever design or pattern on a jumper to wear in the cooler weather.
Use your colouring pencils to add detail. Here is an example.

Singular and pairs

Thinking about our body and clothing, some things are singular (only 1) and pairs (2).
For example a pair of trousers. A tee shirt. A pair of shoes. A head. 
Sort these into pair or singular.

The changing weather

Gosh the weather has really changed from the warm weather we have had.
When we go back to school you will wear your school uniform, but think about what you need to be wearing at home now.
What can you wear on your feet; head; hands; legs; body?

With the leaves that you collected, you could turn them in to little creatures by using a pen or pencil to add the detail. Here are some examples.

Calendar maths

We are now in the month of April.
1. How many months are in a year? Write them in order from January to December.
2. Which months are summer, autumn, winter and spring? Here is a clue-there are 3 months in each season and summer starts in December.
3. How many days are there in each month? Careful as they are not all the same.
4. What is the date of your birthday? Do you know the year you were born.
5. List the days of the week, beginning with Sunday.
6. How many days are there in a year?

The life cycle of a deciduous tree

Look at the four different stages of this tree through the seasons.
Copy the drawing in to your book, remember to use your coloured pencils too.
Write a sentence about each season in the life of this tree-spring, summer, autumn and winter.

Changes in Autumn

Autumn means changes are occurring around us. 
What have you noticed, especially in the last week? 
Have a walk round your garden. Look how some of the trees are changing. These are the leaves I collected.

Collect some from nearby. Notice the different shapes and colours. 

Sketch your leaves. 

How would it feel for the trees to lose their leaves?

Can you find out the special word which describes this type of tree?

Zepahiah's learning from home

I was so proud of Zephaniah's learning, which he shared with me, that I wanted everyone to see it.
He has used some of the resources from the pack that was posted to him.

Helping at home

It would be very helpful to help with the dishes. Do you like to wash or dry? Or may be you could  put the dishes away. I like using my snowman pot scrubber.

Imagine that you were a letter box. i wonder what you would see every day? 
Who would go past? What would make you laugh or smile? How would you feel when mail was put inside you? And then taken out?
Draw a speech bubble 💬 and write a few sentences. You could start with: I am a letter box ....

Think about shape, size, colour, number and decoration.
What would make your letter box stand out from the others in the street?

Do you know the number on your letter box?
Is it an odd or even number? Odd numbers have 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9 in them. Even numbers have 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8 in them.

• do you know the number before your number?
• do you know the number after?
• can you count backwards to 0 from your number?
• if your number is an even number, can you count to 100 in even numbers? If your number is an odd number, can you count to 100 in odd numbers?
• what is the number 10 more and 10 less than your number?

Helping at home

While we are all at home in our bubbles, have you been helping with the daily chores?
Larissa has been cooking meals for us. 
You could ask if you could help in preparing a meal. 
Always wash your hands before you start and take care with the equipment you use. Tidy up when you have finished. 

Daily reading activities with Duffy books

We are very lucky to be a Duffy school at Ruapotaka School.

Make a library at your home by collecting all the Duffy books your family has been given.

Find a quiet place to read to yourself or to someone in your bubble.

Look for words you do not understand and talk about these with someone.
